LGBT Service Organization Honors DHS, Board on Aging

Representatives of DHS and the Minnesota Board on Aging (MBA) recently accepted an award honoring the organizations’ inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults in program planning and services. Training to Serve presented the 2013 John Yoakam Award for Service at its benefit May 16 at the Doubletree Park Place in Minneapolis. The organization helps Minnesota aging service providers with education and tools to help them meet the needs of LBGT individuals as they age.

The award recognizes the efforts DHS and the Board on Aging have made in recent years to support increased access to services for LGBT older adults, to train service providers on the needs of LGBT individuals and to seek LGBT input on important aging initiatives.
