Start Minnesota! Assistance for Older Workers

The Minnesota Board on Aging’s Senior LinkAge Line®: A One Stop Shop for Minnesota Seniors, has expanded the One Stop Shop to include information for older adults looking to continue to or return to work.

So much is changing the way we think about work and age. People are thinking differently about retirement and many want to stay in the work force or transition into part-time work.

Older workers are capable, experienced, and mature. Your talents are appreciated and your contribution and skills are critical to Minnesota’s economy.

START MN! offers:

  • Help to a wide range of callers – someone recently retired, recently laid off or out of work, or someone who is currently employed but looking to supplement their income or try something new.
  • The state work force centers will be a big help in providing work information and resources to people about employment opportunities.

The One Stop Shop for Minnesota Seniors, a vision of Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon, began in 2011, to help older adults easily connect to and receive assistance from state agencies; simply by calling the Senior LinkAge Line® at 1-800-333-2433.  In May 2012, the One Stop launched SHARE MN! to connect seniors to volunteer opportunities in their communities.

Aging Workforce Summit

Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon convened a group of experts from across the state on May 14, 2013 to explore the issues surrounding Minnesota’s aging workforce, and to discuss the implications for job-seekers, employees, employers and the state’s workforce development and training systems. The event was sponsored by the Minnesota Board on Aging, Aging 2030, and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. A report summarizing the event and the recommendations from participants is now available.

Start MN Video Campaign

The Minnesota Board on Aging partnered with Twin Cities Public Television to develop six short videos that share stories of older workers. The videos highlight success stories, address myths, and tackle the barriers faced by some older workers.
