David F. Durenberger

Senior Health Policy Fellow, University of St. Thomas

David Durenberger served as Senior United States Senator for Minnesota from 1978 to 1995. Today, he influences the future of the nation’s two major public health programs as a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), the Kaiser Foundation Commission on the Future of Medicaid and the Uninsured, the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the National Quality Forum’s National Commission for Quality Long-term Care. He is President of the Medical Technology Leadership Forum.

Senator Durenberger was also named by Governor Tim Pawlenty to lead the Minnesota Citizens Forum on Health Care Costs, an inside-out approach to healthcare reform in Minnesota. He is author of Prescription for Change and Neither Madman Nor Messiahs and teaches and speaks nationally on the future of healthcare delivery and policy.

Naomi Haines Griffith is a true southerner, growing up in Alabama and Mississippi. She holds a B.S. from the University of North Alabama, an M.A. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama. Since 1988, Naomi Griffith has become a national speaker and consultant, speaking throughout the United States and Canada. A well-known storyteller and family systems specialist, she uses humor, her unique brand of southern wisdom, and her own experiences to challenge and inspire audiences.

Michelle Putnam’s research is in the area of aging and disability policy with an emphasis on political identification, political coalition building, and the way older adults and persons with disabilities think and feel about themselves as individuals in society. Additional interests include the history and evolution of aging and disability policy, and independent living policies for younger and older adults. In April 2002, Putnam was named a Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar.
