Minnesota Board on Aging

Spotlight – January 2002

From the Chair:

Prologue is not past

As the year 2002 begins, what can we find in the events of Sept. 11 of a positive nature? We were rudely thrust back into the stark realities of life on this planet. Poverty, hate, pain and illness pervaded too many areas affecting the most vulnerable, especially seniors.

Suddenly, the news coverage that overwhelmed us for months, if not years – of the Simpson trial, Monica, Gary Condit, the Twins’ stadium struggle – faded away.

Hopefully, with all its horror, Sept. 11 may have shocked us to return to a checklist of activities, that will bring our mission back into focus. The stimulation of mental, physical and spiritual activities, with services to others, will be high on everybody’s "to do" list.

In the months to come, the comprehensive programs that the Minnesota Board on Aging has developed, will be presented in detail. We look forward to our new association with Good Age and the chance to work with our legislators in January.
