Caregiving can be rewarding, yet difficult
Taking care of a frail, sick, or older
family member can be a rewarding, yet difficult, job that
involves many tasks and responsibilities. This can have an
enormous impact on your life, especially since most people
do not expect, plan, or prepare to be a caregiver. Many
caregivers describe this as a time of:
- Emotional "ups" and "downs"
- Lifestyle changes for the whole family
- Changing family roles and relationships
- Juggling tight schedules
- Loss and grief
There is good news for family caregivers in that more and
better help is becoming available throughout Minnesota.
Using help and support early on is key to those wanting to provide care
for a long time.
Reluctant to accept help? Don’t be. Caregiving
does not have to be done alone. You will need help,
especially if the person has significant physical,
cognitive, or emotional needs. Accepting help will allow you
to stay healthy and maintain your stamina.
