Is there any place I can get help with my taxes?

Q:  The tax season is under way. Are there resources available to help older Minnesotans complete their state and federal income taxes?

A:  The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) provides a free service, the AARP Tax-Aide program.

The program is available to people of all ages with middle and low incomes, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

The AARP Tax Aide program is a service that prepares tax returns and answers tax questions. There are 30,000-plus dedicated and proud IRS-trained and certified volunteers.

The AARP Tax-Aide sites are located in places convenient for taxpayers to get to, such as senior centers, libraries and malls. Program representatives can also visit taxpayers in their homes, if they are physically unable to visit a site.

The program is available from Feb. 1 to April 15 each year.

During the off-season, the program continues to provide online tax counseling and trains the volunteer cadre for the upcoming season.

For a listing of additional tax assistance sites in your area, you may call the toll-free, automated AARP Tax-Aide Line at 1-888-227-7669 or visit the AARP web site at www.aarp.org/taxaide/.

Quick Senior Link items are taken from frequent calls to the Senior LinkAge Line®, a free service that connects seniors to programs or services that they need. Call 1-800-333-2433 or visit www.mnaging.org.
