Caregivers.

Are you a caregiver to an older person?

Not sure? Take this short quiz and find out quickly.

  1. Do you help an older adult with any of the following? groceries, medications, rides, chores, laundry, meals, walking, bathing or grooming, medical appointments, legal affairs, money or banking assistance, companionship, or supervision?
  2. Do you live with an older person that you do not feel comfortable leaving alone because of his/her health or safety?
  3. Do you think worry, wonder, or feel concern about how an older adult is getting along because of their age, need for help, health condition, forgetfulness, or make frequent telephone calls or visits to check on this person?
  4. Does an older person call you frequently and ask for your help or tell you that she/he cannot do certain things?
  5. Has a neighbor or friend of an older relative contacted you or you contacted them to check on this person?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are a caregiver. Identifying yourself as a caregiver is important so you take the time to gather information, make plans, and schedule breaks for yourself. Up-front awareness, planning, and use of services will help prepare you as the demands of caregiving for your family member change.  For warning signs of caregiver stress and burnout, visit the Alzheimer’s Association.
