Got a problem with your nursing home care? Call your ombudsman!

The Office of Ombudsman for Older Minnesotans works with seniors and their caregivers to enhance the quality of care and services. Administered through the Minnesota Board on Aging, the Ombudsman Office:

  • Resolves disputes and complaints through mediation, negotiation, education or referral to appropriate state or federal enforcement agencies or legal services;
  • Provides information and education about consumers’ rights, laws and regulations and the financing of health care and long-term care services through written materials, individual consultation or public speaking;
  • Advocates for reform through state and federal legislation and the health care and social services system to better meet consumer needs.

Who can get help?
You may use the Ombudsman services if you are:

  • a nursing home resident or boarding care home resident;
  • a Medicare beneficiary with questions about hospitals and physician services; Medicare rights and benefits, managed care and other health care insurance;
  • using Home Care services, including hospice;
  • using Assisted living services, adult day services, adult foster care and durable medical equipment and supplies; or
  • you have questions about nursing home care, Medicare, homecare and community services.

  • Service agreements or care plans

The state Office of Ombudsman for Older Minnesotans is located on the skyway in downtown St. Paul and nine regional offices are located state-wide. If you are not sure our Office will handle your question, call or write to us anyway and together we will determine how to address your concern.
